How to unshrink your clothes

Sometimes, we don’t look after our garment in a proper way and clean it in unsuitable manner, which results in shrinking of the garment.

In that situation we have a question in our minds, that, can we get it back in its original shape and size?

Yes! Sometimes it is possible to get it back our garment in its original form. The process on unshrinking depends on fabric, whether it is washable or dry cleanable.

For washable fabrics like cotton, linen, we can try soaking the garment in white vinegar for an hour and after that we can clean it in hot water.

For best result try moderate stretching while wet and hold it down with heavy object and dry flat. But remember not to stretch too much otherwise shape of the garment can damage.

The fabrics which cannot be washed but dry cleaned can also be get back to their original size by a process called “blocking”.

In this process, measurements must be taken before dry cleaning to make sure its original size after cleaning.

The process of blocking involves, streaming and stretching the garment repeatedly. This process basically, relaxes the fabric and hence unshrink the garment.

Blocking is a useful process for knit wears as well and can be used for all types of knit wears like sweaters, scarfs etc.
